Single girder gantry crane is a type of gantry crane with a single girder/beam structure on the top and travels on the crane rails. Usually, it equips with electric wire rope hoist as lifting mechanism, sometimes equips with electric chain hoist, according the working conditions. The electric hoist hangs under the main beam and travels along with it. The main girder of single girder gantry crane is supported by one or two legs which are connected with end beams, so the whole gantry crane system can travel along the crane rails by the end carriages.
As the max lifting capacity of the electric hoist for single girder crane is 20 tons, the lifting capacity of single girder gantry crane is also under 20 tons. But single girder gantry cranes can do most of the work no matter indoor and outdoor, which is why single girder gantry cranes are the most popular gantry cranes.
As you know, for industrial gantry cranes, they are able to move in six directions, left and right, up and down, forward and backward. The electric hoist under the main beam moves in left and right directions, when lifting and lowering, the hook of the hoist move up and down and the whole gantry crane systems move forward and backward.
If the single girder gantry crane travels long distance, it will be equipped with a cable reel. Long travel means long power feeding system, gantry crane cable reel can effectively solve the problem of retracting and releasing the power supply cable.
Sometimes you can see the cantilevers on the left and right of the single girder gantry crane main beam, and sometimes just one on the left or right. The cantilevers length is not included in crane span, if you need to lift loads which are out of the crane rails, a cantilever is a good choice, the electric hoist can travel across the legs. Of course, the cantilever is not infinitely long, it depends on the span of the whole gantry crane.
