The global economic expansion has greatly increased the demand for iron, steel, aluminum, and copper. Scrap plants, steel mills, rolling mills, aluminium smelters and electrolytic metallurgical operations all require robust material handling equipment with high demands on power and data transmission systems. Reliability is the number one factor, as any unplanned downtime will generate scrap and reduce productivity.
In steel plants, charge and ladle handling cranes must be able to work around furnaces and molten steel, typically at temperatures above 70°C. Iron bar, billet and coil handling cranes operate at high speeds, accurately positioning and rotating loads. Finally, the environment around electrolytic metallurgy and electroplating lines will corrode common electrical components.
